Question : I have a CPAP machine, I did not clean t regularly; my fever is low- highest it went is 100.4 yesterday afternoon - now it is 98.2
I do not have the classic symptoms of the flu, other than a general achy feeling and some very mild chills at times; no coughing or cold type symptoms- do not feel really knocked out. Mostly I feel a "presence" in my head and the back of my throat with post nasal drip. I started gargling with salt water 3 days ago.
My feeling is this is a lingering sinus infection from unclean CPAP- but I want to confirm it not the flu.
Phlegm is very slightly yellowish green

                                    Brief Answer:
its not due to the mask of machine
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in HCM
I can understand your concern
First i advise you to be careful with the mask of CPAP to disinfect it regularly.
As you explain the history yes i agree that this seems to be a sinusitis mostly due to a viral situation. I don't think this is due to the mask of machine.
However in these conditions you can use paracetamol or ibrufen orally 2-3 times per day and a lot of water too.
Hope to have been helpful for you

                                    Dear Dr. Jolanda,
Thank you for your answer.
I neglected to inform you that my CPAP machine has a water tank humidifier; this is where mold or fungus (or whatever) could grow. Does this now lead you think that my condition IS most likely form the dirty water tank?
I have Amoxicillin 875 mg tablets in my house- do you think I should take these? On- line they say this is a fairly standard cure for a Sinus infection. However, if it is viral than the Amoxicillin will not work- is that correct?
In the past when I have had this condition antibiotics did help.
Is it clear to you that this is Sinusitis and NOT the flu?
Thank you XXXXXXX Zalon

Hi again
As you explain the history i think this might be viral sinusitis .In such conditions i recommend to wait for the antibiotic. If after 2-3 days you will feel better than they're not needed.
Post nasal drip syndrome is a sign of sinusitis.
If the water of CPAP is so dirty yes It might be a place of infection .
