Question : I recently had unprotected sex and it lasted quite a long time ( I was drunk and had taken a viagra pill). near the end it was very dry and I noticed some discomfort and excessive rubbing on the shaft of my penis. The next day in the shower the skin on the right side of my shaft was tender to the touch and there appeared to be a pimple like bump in the redness. I squeezed it and popped it ( it was quite painful) and some fluid and a white head came out. I applied polisporin ointment over the next two days as it was still quite sore to the touch and it helped. However on the third morning I noticed about 4 more red pimple like bumps along the same side of my shaft, about 1-2 mm and round. I squeezed them as well in a bit of a panic but noting but clear fluid came out. within a day or so thet had begun to scab over and by 4 days the scabs picked/flaked off leaving small round pinkish/red marks. I have had no other symptoms aside from slight itching, but the itching has not been localized to just that area and as I have noticed lots of dry skin lately I suspect it may have more to do with that. would herpes show up like these little pimple like marks, scab and be almost gone within 4-5 days? I should also mention they were relatively painless aside from when I squeezed and popped them.

Brief Answer:
Cellulitis

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about lesions that occurred after prolonged sex. This sounds like you have caused an abrasion and gotten a bacterial infection. This is caused by the dry irritation causing a small cut on your penis and then bacteria getting into the cut. This allowed for an infection and is spread to the local area. This is not likely herpes as herpes does not develop but 7 days after exposure and causes blisters. You don't describe any blisters but more like small pustules. I recommend keeping the area clean with soap and water. Then use the polysporin to fight the infection. This should resolve in less than a week.

I hope this answers your question. Please contact us again for any health questions or concerns.

Thank you doctor. The scabbing has pretty much healed and I haven't noticed any more itching in the area. However while I was urinating yesterday I noticed a large patch of skin on the underside of my penis at the base of my shaft. The skin was white and very dry and rubbed of almost like a film. The skin underneath it red and raw and there looks to be a few small abrasions. could this be related or would this be an indication of something more serious

Thanks for returning to HCM with you questions

Yes the white skin and the underlying red skin is normal healing. Give this about a week and it will be all be healed. This is normal healing and you have nothing to concern yourself at this time.

I hope I have answered your question.

Would you expect this type of bacterial infection to be contagious?

Answered by Dr. Ronald Schubert (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
non infectious

Detailed Answer:
This type of infection is an opportunistic infection. You injured the skin and the normal skin bacteria got into the underlying tissue and started the infection. Once your skin heals the infection will be gone and no longer something to be concerned about. This infection is not transmittable
