Question : I am a male, 84 years, & just recently have developed frequent urination problems; sometimes the urge is almost immediate and can be triggered by the sound of running water or pumping gas.
For the past several days, I have had to urinate sometimes as 2 X's in an hour.
The stream is weak but color is normal. I have a burning sensation in the in the top part of the penis when the urge comes on and while urinating.
Do I have an UTI problem or is my prostrate the cause?

Brief Answer:

Looks more like UTI

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

From what you are describing it looks like you are having a urinary tract infection because the prostate problems do not start this fast and also do not have burning sensation.

I would recommend drinking plenty of water. But the most important thing is that you go get tested to confirm the infection and to determine which is the best antibiotic to use.

In males it is very important that the UTIs to be treated completely because they are difficult to heal and may give kidney problems if not treated properly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Brief Answer:

Most probably you will need confirmation by urine analyze.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

It is not very common to prescribe an antibiotic without confirming it by urine analyze.

Anyway, if you explain your situation and your symptoms, if he has some space to do that, I am sure he will do because he rather gives you treatment as soon as possible then leave you without treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
