Posted on Fri, 28 Jul 2023
Question: In the last few months my blood pressure has risen quite a bit. The average of the last three measurements taken over 30 minutes with no physical activity during that time is 160 over 123. Yesterday one reading was 172 over 124. I am 41 years old with no history of heart disease. Nonsmoker. Work on average of about 70 to 80 hours a week over 6 to 7 days. Have had issues with my kidneys lately. passed a kidney stone around Christmas. Last few weeks have a blood in urine but comes & goes for no apparent reason. This is my first time consulting anyone about this. Being self-employed can't afford insurance but have no problem paying out of pocket for visits or consultations.

Brief Answer:

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Your actual blood pressure values are really high.

Considering your age, these blood pressure values are not normal and could be related to secondary hypertension.

Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests to investigate for possible causes underlying high blood pressure:

- complete blood count for anemia
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalances
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction
- cortisol plasma levels for adrenal gland dysfunction
- a chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests
- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound.

Starting antihypertensive therapy may be needed if these high blood pressure values persist.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
