Posted on Tue, 10 Oct 2023
Question: I am having fever from 2 days and have been prescribed Actigut, Matilde forte, Zifi 200 and Calpol 650. I was asked to take a blood sugar test. My fasting was 199 and PPS was 284. I have tested a few months ago and everything was normal. Is this temp due to medicines? Does fever increase sugar levels

Brief Answer:
It may not due to medications. Kindly see detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As per your history, no any medication out of that prescribed medications, can increase your blood sugar level. So I don't think that your fasting and postprandial sugar level is due to prescribed medications.

Not actually fever, but infection can cause fluctuation or rise in blood sugar level, but not that much. Let me know whether do you have symptoms of hyperglycemia like hunger, increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, weight loss? Kindly follow up with detailed history.

I'd suggest you to do HbA1c to rule out possibility of diabetes. Continue medications as prescribed. I think this will clarify your concern. Take care.

Kindly do HbA1c and follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back.

Thank you for your reply. I have seen your attached reports. Your fasting and postprandial blood sugar level are on higher side. Kindly do HbA1c. It will reflect your average blood sugar level in last three months. Follow up with reports. Take care.
