Question : I wanted to know what you thought, I have sleep disorders in waking several times a night , I forget sometimes things but in general know my lic plate birth date what time it is and directions. I have been very depressed for over a month and I am concerned if it is dementia related. I don't like going out places and have loss interest in watching sports or tv in general. I don't know why I am so depressed but I worry a lot about different medical problems and look at the internet to self diagnose my problems . I am 58 years old and have had a blood test done in the last couple of months and all have come back ok except for low B12 which my doctor says is boarder line hi uric acid level and triglycerides are a little high . What do you think it might be from what I have listed. I also tend to lay in bed a lot and try and sleep to forget about depression, also feel that I am in a box with no way out.

Do you think it is depression or possibly dementia

Thanks,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It is more of depression otherwise called pseudodementia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your question and understand your concerns.

In my view your symptoms are more suggestive of depression rather than dementia. Although dementia can present with similar symptoms but lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities pointing toward depression.

In addition dementia is very slowly progressive and take years to develop such severe symptoms.

Forgetfulness is part of both disorders but in dementia you never loss long term memory in early years like in depression.

I hope this helps you.
