Brief Answer:
She should see a doctor asap

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I require some more information.
Did your mother-in-law law become confused , vomit or become unconscious. If so one should suspect a head injury and go to ER. The black stools can mean a bleeding in the stomach or duodenum. If she is on aspirin or any blood thinner, it should be discontinued.
This also requires to be investigated and treated without delay.
