Are Opioid Medicines Effective In Postherpatic Neuralgia?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: I went to the doctor on Friday. I have complete vault prolapse of my vagina, bladder urethra, bowels. The doctor also found a red growth protruding from my urethra. It was sort of hard and bloody. Also the opening for my urethra was uneven and sort of bloody too. There were a lot of red blood cells in my urine a long with protein. What is this, and what could it mean? Also, I'm not sure if I asked this, but is it true that opiod medicines done't work for postherpatic neuralgia?

Brief Answer:
possible urethral caruncle...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
If you are a post hysterectomy patient and presently have a vault prolapse with cystocele and rectocele with a possible urethral caruncle ( appearing as a red growth at urethral outlet). The concern for red blood cells in urine is because of the caruncle and it may be painful as well. Though the growth can be a tumourous growth as well so a local biopsy of the growth is advised and a histopathological examination to ascertain its benignity or malignancy and the cell of origin as well.
The vault prolapse can be treated with a sacrospinous colpofixation or a laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy.
The effectiveness of opioids for post herpetic neuralgia has been decreasing though they are still the first choice but resistance shall develop after prolong usage and they may have to be combined with often antidepressants or non-opioids /NSAIDS as well.
Regards
