Question : WF52, former mrsa patient (cutaneous) now diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis, possible pneumonia, feels weak, short of breath, temp fluctuations, little sleep. also hepc positive. is mrsa a possible factor?
Brief Answer:
not likely
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
MRSA is a rare cause of pneumonia and usually seen in critically ill patients or in immunocompromised patients such as those with AIDS, on corticosteroids or leukemias.Skin MRSA infections are not related to possible pneumonia. So in your case I think this should be treated as any other primary bacterial pneumonia to cover streptoccocal and hemophylis and "normal"staphyloccus. It includes aztromicin and amoxicilin. If there is progression of symptoms then you need intravenous antibiotics. Wish you good health. Regards
