Are Stiff Neck, Headaches And Itchy Throat Indicative Of HIV?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I was in Sub-saharan XXXXXXX 4months ago and I had unprotected fellatio from a street hooker where I was the insertive partner. I lasted for about 5 mins I didn’t ejaculate in her mouth though. 7-8weeks later I got some weird symptoms similar to what I read in the internet could be ARS. I tested twice with Oraquick. The first test was at 85days and the second one was at 101days. Both tests where Neg-. I’m still concern about hiv and having hard time trusting my result. Do I need further testing? And can hiv symptoms last for 6-7weeks because I’m having symptoms like dry and itchy throat, muscle tickling, stiff neck and headaches.

Again sorry to bother you, but Oraquick is the only test I have access to as this point of time.

Brief Answer:
Chances of HIV are unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Chances of HIV through fellatio are highly unlikely. Your symptoms are also non-specific. Oraquick is not a specific test. It may show false positive or false negative results. For your personal satisfaction you can undergo ELISA or western blotting test for HIV. You current symptoms can be because of Upper respiratory tract infection resulting in generalized stiffness & headache.

Conclusion:
HIV is highly unlikely BUT for your personal satisfaction you can undergo ELISA and/or western blotting test for HIV detection.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Thank you so much Dr. XXXXXXX You answered my questions. However, I can’t get a blood test at this moment due to insurance reasons here in US. But I’ll be traveling to a larger town in Dec InSha Allah where confidential tests are offered. I know I shouldn’t be asking you this but based on your experience, what are the chances I could have HIV?

Brief Answer:
Chances highly Unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back. You can get it done whenever possible. You have right to ask about chances of infection. As per your history, chances are highly unlikely. HIV spread through prolonged contact of body with infected semen, blood, vaginal fluid or anal sex.
