Are Sudden Weakness, Stomach Issue And Appetite Loss In An MRSA Patient A Serious Concern?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Jan 2022
Question: Hello, last Friday I suddenly became so weak I couldn't bring in a few bags of groceries and so I started taking my B-12 and B complex supplements. I'd been sick to my stomach the previous week and was unable to eat anything and did not take any supplements for fear of them aggravating my stomach more. One week ago I stopped taking steroids my doctor had me on for a skin conditon; it was a fairly large dose to start with and I was on them a little more than 3 weeks. I suffered from MRSA 3 years ago and I have to take antibiotics daily forever. I am on a probiotic now which helped me a great deal. I'm not a lot better with this weakness than I was Friday and since I have trouble just walking from room to room in my home, it's starting to scare me.

Brief Answer:
Get back on the steroids immediately!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The abrupt discontinuation of these steroids is the problem. You never stop this abruptly because the body has been suppressed and cannot produce its own supply. The best action at this time is to resume them.

After getting on them, take for a few days and taper off progressively over 2-3weeks.

I wish you well.

I stopped taking the steroids only because the prescription had ended; it had tapered down to 2 a day and then was finished. Could this happen even though I followed the instructions on the steroids?

Brief Answer:
Yes!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your symptoms of fatigue following discontinuation of steroids is very telling. Please, you need steroids to help now. Future tapering should be done over a longer period of time than was the case now.

I wish you well.
