Question : I just had a hip replacement and was given Percocet and Valium to control pain. the medication has left me depressed. Symptoms are slightly lifting, but still there. Any natural things to do to help the depression?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
These medications can indeed sometimes act as central nervous system depressants. The best thing to do that is natural is to engage in behavioral activation -- meaning, stay active! This cognitive behavioral technique has been shown over time to be helpful for lifting depression. Stay engaged with other people, do things outside the home, exercise, and avoid isolation. This will help over time.

Brief Answer:
Followup
Detailed Answer:
There is some low-level evidence that this can be effective. However, it is very important you run this idea by your doctor, as St John's Wort can significantly interact and affect the levels and efficacy of other medications you may be taking.
