Are There Any Natural Ways To Increase Progesterone? My Periods

default
Posted on Sat, 13 Feb 2021
Question: Are there any natural ways to increase progesterone? My periods come every 3 weeks and last two weeks. My doctor wants me to take norethindrone because it helps regulate my periods. I’m obese and trying to lose weight. In between periods I have vaginal cramping. I need a way to naturally and quickly increase progesterone to length days between periods and shorter the length of my periods. My a1c is also elevated. It’s 6.9. My doctor wants me to try losing weight before placing me on diabetic medication.

Need further health parameters

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and after reviewing your health query I’m of the following opinion:

1. As you have not mentioned your age thus I’m unable to deduce whether you are in reproductive age group or post menopausal.

2. As you have not mentioned your weight thus please specify the same since there is a difference between obese and overweight.

3. Any gynecological opinion related to uterine pathology (fibroid, polyps or adenomyosis) or ultrasound done to exclude disease like PCOD/PCOS.

4.Raised Hba1c apart from high blood sugar can also be due to iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficinecy, and decreased erythropoiesis, so check with complete blood picture ( full health check up)

5. It could be Menorrhagia, Metrorrhagia, hormone related problem ( low thyroid), any bleeding disorder (check with WBC, Clotting time, Bleeding time), apart from Pap test, endometrial biopsy.

6. Since hormonal preparation increases the risk of clotting and obesity also affect the efficacy of hormonal preparations by altering the absorption, distribution, metabolisation or elimination of these drugs, thus it is wise to let me know the body vitals and investigations, only then the best treatment and /or management’s can be discussed on the cause of your bleeding ( whether it is medical or surgical or both).

I am 32 and weigh 280 pounds at 5 feet and 4 inches. My doctor said I have pcos and I am pre-diabetic. Taking progestin regulates my periods however I don’t want to rely on synthetic hormones because of the blood clot risk. I am losing weight and I want to increase my natural ability to make progesterone. My ultrasound was normal.
