Are There Any Other Blood Tests I Can Conduct To Determine If There Is A Diabetes Risk?

Question: I am male 62 years and have IGA nephropathy for the past 13 years which is being treated with Cardace 10 mg, Stamlo 5 mg, Rosuvas 10 mg, and fish oil capsules .
In addition I have thyroid nodules -no treatment, a benign prostrate (38 cc, Grade 2) – Urimax 0.4 mg medication. BP is around 130/80. I exercise daily for about 45 minutes.

My recent blood & urine test results in July 2023 are as follows:

1. Routine examination Urine - no protein, glucose or RBCs in urine.
2. Albumin Creatinine Ratio 101.56 ug/mg , Protein Creatinine Ratio 0.17
3.Serum Creatinine 1.41 mg/dl (Dec 22 -1.27, April 22 -1.22, July 21 -1.40)
4. FBS 88 mg/dl (Dec 22 -101 mg/dl, April 22 – 90, July 21 -93)
5. HBA1C - 6 % (Dec 22 - 5.7, April 22 - 5.7, July 21 - 5.8)
I am concerned with the HBA1C level which has been at 5.7 since April 2019 and has now increased to 6%. However, during the past 3 months (April 23- July 23) there has been additional sweets/cakes/ biscuits consumed as well as in-season mangoes.
1) I would appreciate your views whether there is any cause for concern w.r.t the increase in HBA1C in Dec 22 and a diabetes diagnosis. There is diabetes history in my family.
2) Would the HBA1C levels been affected by the consumption of mangoes between May 23 and July 23 (about 1 per week) ?
3) Despite daily exercise and monitoring my consumption of sweets, etc, the HBA1C level has been persistent around 5.7. How do I reduce this ? My diet is usually bread/idli in the morning, handful of rice in the afternoon & chapati at night plus vegetables & fruits such as apple, pear.
4. Are there any other blood tests I can conduct to determine if there is a diabetes risk?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. Yes definitely risk of diabetes, as HBA1C is increasing.
2. per would not affect HBA1C level, but other sweets and uncontrolled consumption of simple carbohydrates can.
3. If even after diabetic diet, hba1c is increasing, then you need to start low dose of metformin.
4. You can get C peptide test done to rule out type 1 diabetes.
And to know the risk, you are already at risk, because hba1c is increasing and in pre-diabetic range.

So follow diabetic diet
Brisk walk for at least 150 minutes per week.
And get HBA1C test done after 3 months.

I Hope Your Query is clear now.
Thank You.

Thank you for your prompt response.

I changed my cholesterol medication in Dec 22 from Atorvastatin 10 mg to Rosuvas 10 mg. Based on Rosuvas details it appears that it affects blood sugar.

Could taking Rosuvas from Dec 22 affected my HB1AC ? The July 23 HB1AC was the first test after taking Rosuvas for 6 months.

If taking Rosuvas impacts my HB1AC what should I do ? Should the cholesterol medication be changed?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Do not worry about that, practically rosuvastatin doesn't increase HBA1C this much.
