Question: Dear Dr., my last period ended on 10th Aug and to delay next period I took 1 primolut-N 5 mg daily for five days from 3rd Sept to 6th Sept. When I did not get period until 11th Sept, I tested for pragnency on 12th Sept and test was POSITIVE. My concern is would primolutN will cause any adverse effect on pregnancy ? Kindly advise so that necessary remedial actions can be taken immediately. Thank you in anticipation !

Brief Answer:
Transvaginal ultrasound is needed immediately.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

I understand your query and concern.

Always Primolut N is prescribed in women(trying to conceive) only after taking the pregnancy test and should be taken only when UPT is negative.

Since you missed it, I advise you to get a Transvaginal ultrasound immediately to look for the viability of the pregnancy.

Primolut N is known to hinder endometrial changes and implantation of the embryo during early pregnancy.

Minor cases of fetal malformation are reported with Primolut N, hence regular follow-up ultrasound is a mandate in your case.

I advise you to consult gynecologist at the earliest and start taking Folic acid, multivitamins, and Iron capsules.

Do not worry.Be strong and brave.

Post your further queries if any,

Thank you.

Thank you so much for your response.

Since I do not want to take any risk of fatal malformation, would it be advisable that I abort this 3-4 week's and then try again ? If possible, kindly advice so that I would consult our gynac accordingly.

I heard that 3-4 week could be cleaned just by pills, without much complications.

Thanks !

Brief Answer:
Get Transvaginal ultrasound to confirm intrauterine pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

Welcome again,

I advise you to get a Transvaginal ultrasound immediately to confirm intrauterine pregnancy.

You can continue with the pregnancy if growth of fetus and yolk sac are appropriate and all other blood parameters are within normal limits.

Yes Medical termination of pregnancy with oral and intravaginal tablets can be done till 63 days from last menstrual period.

Further management depends on the test results.

So consult your gynecologist at the earliest.

Post your further queries if any,

Thank you.
