Question: I am low on vitamin D I have done the 50,000 units a week for 8 weeks on 3 different occasions, I currently take 6000 unit a day and still I am at the very low part of normal. I am wondering if a sun lamp would help, I get sunburned very easily,

Brief Answer:
Yes, sunlamps should help

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Yes ma'am, there are certain specific types of sunlamps made to help elevate vitamin D levels, please speak to your doctor or the local pharmacy regarding the same as brands for these sunlamps vary from one country to another.

Also, I am sure you have made numerous dietary and lifestyle changes to help supplement your deficiency, but please also speak to your doctor about a hormonal approach. The main reason for low vitamin D levels in post-menopausal women is due to the reduced or complete absence of sexual hormones that play a vital role in absorption of vitamin D into the body. Supplementing those hormones can contribute to an increase in vitamin D levels as well.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative, please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further help, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
I am glad I could be of assistance

Detailed Answer:
Hi ma'am.

I am not sure how but sex hormones (which reduce around or after menopause) stimulate the conversion of vitamin D which our body uses up. Thus, the reduction in these hormones there is a reduction in the amount of vitamin D converted and available for the body to use.

Best wishes.
