Are Twitching Of Eye And Upward Movement Of Eye Ball Suggestive Of Seizure?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Sep 2015
Question: My son who is 2 years and 3 month old today moved his eye ball upwards for few seconds and the twitched eyes for few seconds. Before this he was irritated also. Immediately after this he started crying and after I consoled him, he was normal and started playing. What could this be? Is this also another form of seizure he has got? Please note that he is already being treated for infantile spasms where he suddenly drops his head downwards.

Brief Answer:
This is a type of seizure only

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Uprolling of eye ball with twitching movement is a type of complex partial seizure. It has been seen that 50-60% of children with infantile spasm develop other seizure types.I would like to know if there was any fever as fever can precipitate the seizure.

Both Lonazep(clonazepam) and Encorate(valproate) are good medication to control seizure.
I would suggest you to consult your pediatrician as the dose of antiepileptic medication Encorate or Lonazep may need to increase to prevent further attack.

Please let me know if you have any more queries.

Thanks dr for the response. I also wanted to check if B12 has anything to do with seizures? On the advise of occupational therapist we consulted a doctor who prescribed B12 to my son to help his speech. He has been taking that for last 3 weeks. Does taking B12 also increases chances of seizures?

Brief Answer:
No, vitamin B12 supplementation does not causes seizure

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up

Supplementation of vitamin B12 does not increases chances of seizure.Even vitamin B12 considered to be neuroprotective.
So again I would suggest you to visit your pediatrician for increase in dosage if needed.
