Are Warm Sensations And Tingling Symptoms Of Heart-attack?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Oct 2017
Question: I have just had stents put in because of clogged artieries in the celiac area. After eating I had a weird strong warm hot sensation travel up my mid chest accompanied by extreme tingling that started in mid chest and traveled up to the top of my head and also traveled down both arms. It was like a paralysis feeling. Shortness of breath and disoriented. I laid down for about 20 minutes to try to get it to subside. Got back up and vomited, then the symptoms subsided. I was left very weak and my arms for the next 2 days were very heavy. Could this have been a stroke, heart attack, perhaps a back up in the arteries that are clogged. I do have to go back for another surgery because the stents have failed. They are going to try new stents again. Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

I passed carefully through your recent clinical symptomatology and would explain that your symptoms are not typical of any heart attack or stroke. Low oxygen saturation or hypoxia can mimic this clinical situation.

The presence of atherosclerosis and arterial narrowing in the celiac arteries, indicates that there may be other narrowed arteries due to atherosclerosis in other organs like the heart or the brain.

Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a careful physical exam and some tests:

-a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes to investigate for coronary artery disease
-a chest X ray study and D-Dimmer levels to investigate for pulmonary embolism
-complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance
- an arterial blood gas analysis
- a Doppler ultrasound of the carotid arteries, to investigate for carotid artery stenosis.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
