At Age 16 I Started To Insert Objects Into My Rectum And Now I Have The Feeling That The Outer Muscle Of The Rectum Is A Bit Loose Is All Of This Normal? When Will Everything Go Back To Normal Down There?

I am a 21 year old straight male and I have a slight problem with my rectum.
When I was in puberty I went through a hard period in my life and was heavily depressed, locking myself in my room and isolating myself from everyone. Masturbation and self-stimulation coupled with pornography was my escape. I started to insert objects into my rectum, which got considerably big. I am not proud of this and am slightly ashamed, but at least I didn't turn to drugs, alcohol or self-harm. I now understand it was a coping mechanism - I just wanted to feel again, just something, anything.
This behavior took place when I was roughly 16-18 years old. It happened intermittently for about 2 years. The last 3 years I have not engaged in this activity (and do not plan to in the future).
Everything seems to be working fine and nothing leaks (it never did). Still, I have the feeling that the outer muscle of the rectum is a bit loose. When I go to the toilet I need a considerable amount of paper to clean up - as if I have to wipe a bit deeper, almost like scooping the rests out of there, but not going all the way in.
Also, the consistency of my stool often seems to be not that solid (not liquid either), even when I eat natural, self-cooked foods.
My question:
Is all of this normal? When will everything go back to normal down there?
Thank you
Lax anal tone, generally resolve with exercises
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have gone through your description and I can understand your concerns.
Your problem seems like lax anal sphincter due to minor trauma caused by insertion of objects in the anal canal. It can cause fecal incontinance and leakage of feces.
Generally the problem will subside over time without any treatment. You can do sphincter exercises which helps to gain sphincter function and anal tone. A continence physiotherapist or specialist continence nurse, can helps you with this. Or you can learn those from Internet itself.
In most cases the problem will resolve with exercises but rarely surgical correction may be needed. In case exercises fails, consult a gsstrosurgeon and get evaluated.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks
