Question: "At presentation, he complained of a three-day history of fever, chills, and generalized muscle aches, culminating in a one-day history of increasingly severe tightness and pain of his jaw, chest, and abdominal muscles. He stated that he was unable to open his mouth, complained of difficulty swallowing, and felt short of breath."

Hello. This is copied from another medical site, and is a point i make explaining to the doctors i see that says tetanus is lockjaw as first Sign.

You might be able to see my other question to you regarding the same issue
You answer perfectly. However. It happened again.
This time a scratch from my dog, just on the skin where the mail begins. It did not bleed so i thought nothing of it. Two days later the exact same symptoms as before (when i wrote you), when i got first bit by dog, and then the cut from shovel.
I got this cut thursday a week ago. There was no mark on my finger until the next day, when it become a little scratch like if there was dead tissue underneath. Symptoms began late saturday, with fascicuations in my lower arm, and developed to sore muscles as after workout or inflamed muscles. Sometimes painfull like a pin or knife.
I have pictures of what the "wound " looked like.

I feel my symptoms are just like the intro i copied and pasted in here.

A year and Half ago my titers were 1.6
Noone understand that, because i habent had any other than vaccinations as a young boy.

Clarify; my jaw is not stiff. I can open mouth. I have also tried the spatula method, with a thing at the back of throat, and gag reflex happens. Not clenching of jaw.
Still. This is worrying and scary

Brief Answer:
In lock jaw, you can not open mouth even for spoon or straw.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
First of all, let me clear this.
Dog bite causes rabies directly and Tetanus indirectly if you are in contact with soil or iron rusty things.
So please let me know
1. At the time of bite any visible bleeding happened? Any direct contact with soil or iron rusty thing?
Second thing is lock jaw. You can not open your mouth to insert anything if you have tetanus lock jaw. Since you are saying that you can open your mouth and examined by spatula, I don't think it is tetanus.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hi
I tried to follow up. Not sure if you saw it.
However.
To answer your questions
No it did not bleed. But a day or two later it looked like i had dead tissue there.
No direct contact with soil, but my dog does eat soil so i think maybe there could have been on his teeth maybe? Dont know.
I just can not explain these muscle aches and fasciculations i got directly two days after.
