Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your query.

Sorry to hear about your sister's problem. A few things you have to realise right at the outset.

Burns is a complex multisystem problem with long term effects as well, so expecting an early and quick solution is difficult.

That being said, you have not told me if the doctors mentioned anything about the degree of burns... how much of the burns is 2nd degree and how much 3rd degree etc.

But from what you say, since about 40% of it has healed in a month’s time, I’m thinking most of it was 2nd degree.

Yes, antibiotics and dressings have to continue as per the orders of the treating doctors there. They will have to keep changing them as and when required.

Very hard for us to comment on the condition now and the recovery, you will have to talk to the treating doctors there who can give you a better idea.

But the positives out of this till now what I see are...

1. 40% of her wounds have healed
2. She is eating well
3. Drinking well
4. Doesn't seem to have major sepsis

The lung part is a problem with any patient who is in bed for a long time, so they will be giving her chest physiotherapy and breathing exercises.

She also needs to see a psychiatrist and should be on medication for depression too.

From what I hear from your query, the recovery process seems to be going on well.

But it is very difficult for us to predict what can happen and how long the treatment will go on... the best people to give you an idea about that will be the treating surgeons who have seen her progress and her wounds.

From your side you can keep her spirits up and give her high protein diet and encourage her to do her exercises and chest physiotherapy and keep her active as possible.

The rest treatment, the doctors will take care of it I’m sure.

You may send us a mail at YYYY@YYYY if you wish to speak to a doctor on phone.

I wish your sister a speedy recovery.
