Dear Doctor,
I need your help again. My son is now 5 year and 2 months.
Dry cough with fever. No other issues. But this time the fever jumps up to 102.8.
Fever started yesterday morning with 99.5 degrees. At about 8 p.m it was 102.8. I managed with 6 ml of paracetamol syrup every 6 hours. The fever subsides immediately after the syrup.
I took my son to my regular Doctor today afternoon. He confirmed viral fever and asked me to manage with Ascoril Flu and Paracetamol.
However, he suspected some throat infection and as a precautionary measure, he gave Aziwok Syrup 5 ml at night for three days.
My request to you is:
1. Every time the fever used to touch 101.5 or rarely 102. I am concerned to see the temperature to go very near to 103 every 6 hours.
2. The cough is manageable with Ascoril Flu.
3. Please advise to manage the fever that is slightly higher this time as your words give the best comfort.

Letme try to address the issues.
1. If your child has fever with temperature more than 100°F, you need to give paracetamol to it bring down. Also use tepid sponging. If paracetamol is not effective in bringing down the temperature, you need to use Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) which is more effective. The minimum gap between two doses of paracetamol is 4-6 hours. The doses of paracetamol and Meftal P are independent of each other. Minimum gap between doses of Meftal P is 6-8 hours. However, I do not think that they would be needed to be used simultaneously.
2. It is OK to use Ascoril Flu but you need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear Saline Nasal Drops in case of nose block.
