Question : August 14 took my mom to doc. For moderate right leg pain. She has a pinched nerve in lower back. She is 96. We have orders for prednisone 10mg. And a muscle relaxant.
Aug 19th the pain was worse so we went back to doc b/c my mom wanted a cortisone shot.
Unfortunately, in order to get a cortisone shot she has to see another doc , it takes a long time to get to see him.
So we are going to get an MRI bc hell need it before he sees her. Her doc also ordered gabapentin which was titrated( up today. (The prednisone was titrated down today. )
I understand the gabapentin makes ppl tired. Doc said it's ok to give more in eve or at night if shes too tired in am. Give less in am.
My concern is that today we went from gabapentin 100mg three times a day to gabapentin 200mg three times a day. I've only given her one dose today. She was so weak and tired. She had a friend visit after lunch and when she left my mom took a nap and shes still sleeping. It's almost 5p and I still have to give my mom two more doses before her bedtime at 10p.
She hasn't had any leg pain since Thusday Aug 22. That's the last time she took an Oxycodone.
If my mom decides she just doesn't want to take this gabapentin anymore is it ok to stop it now without titrating down since she just started it last Tuesday Aug. 20th?

                                    Brief Answer:
YOu can stop right away!
Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks for this query.
I have reviewed the information fully. Your mom can definitely stop taking it without further fears. In fact, she should skip the evening doses unless she wakes up fully prior to bedtime.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Keep me updated with her response.
