Brief Answer:
There is noting to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thank you for the details given
Sorry for the delay- Yesterday was a hectic day.

As she is otherwise playful and taking feeds well, there is nothing to worry- this is physiological only.
It is quite common for infants to sleep less at night and remain active. Few things can be done to improve this:

1. Ensure breast feeds 3-4 times overnight. Hunger/empty stomach disturbs sleep.
2. Set room temperature/clothing to baby's comfort.
3. Keep bed room room mosquito/insect free
4. Keep diaper area dry.
5. Avoid noises like XXXXXXX phones/TV/other gadgets in bed room.
6. If complimentary feeding already started- give one feed just before sleep, and avoid caffeinated items.

As far as baby is active and playful, this need not be taken as a disease.

Also, with a birth weight of 3.1 kg, 5.7kg at 5 months is a bit inadequate(we expect around 7kg). Things that can be done to improve weight:

1. increase frequency of feeds
2. If you have already started complimentary feeds- add oil/ghee while preparing to increase calorie density.
3. Avoid giving plain water frequently- instead, give undiluted milk/rice water.
4. If using formula feed- dilution must be correct. Avoid over dilution
5. Finally, it will be a good idea to screen for anemia by doing Hemoglobin estimation.

I hope this answer will help

Thanks for the details.

We started complimentary feed (Ragi) from last two days (One spoon once per day). what should be the frequency of this.

Is there anything else that can be done to increase weight.

Brief Answer:
Can increase the amount and frequency of feeds

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

You can give complimentary feeds more frequently. Begin with twice daily and gradually progress to 3-4 times/day. One spoon is too little- you can give one cup/katori per feed, as baby accepts. Let baby decide how much he needs

For weight gain, measures said above will be sufficient. Optionally, you can give a multivitamin supplement for 3 months- Zincovit drops 0.5ml twice daily.

If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help; otherwise you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.
Thank you
