default
Posted on Wed, 5 Sep 2018
Question: I have "always" had a cough , minor, erratic, but of the post-nasal drip variety. THe WebMD site suggests that this can be cause by ACE inhibitors. I don't know if DIovan or Metoprolol or Evista (only 3 prescriptions I take) are in this category, so I can talk to my doctors about it.

Brief Answer:

Diovan is related to these side effects

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have worked through your attached query in detail.

The symptoms of cough variety that you mentioned are directly related to the drug Diovan which contains Valsartan. It belongs to a class of drugs called AT receptor antagonist, whose function closely resembles the ACE inhibitors. Minor, dry and irritable cough is a predominant side effect of this pill. WebMD is speaking about this only.

Neither Metoprolol nor Evista is associated with this side effect.

Yes, ofcourse you can speak to your doctors about this side effect.

Generally, this cough is tolerated by most individuals. But if a cough becomes a persistent or intolerant change of medication is advisable.

Take care
