Posted on Fri, 3 Feb 2017
Question: I am having lack of erections for last years. I am going to give l-arginine a try. I want to check it will be safe to take with my current supplements:

DL-Phenylalanine
1Gram Vitamin C
1Gram Folic Acid
Vitamin B12 Spray
L-Thanine
Zinc 25MG

Also, I drink heavily once or twice per week, is it safe to take when doing that too?

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
No risk of interactions, but best to avoid alcohol sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Yes, it is perfectly safe to take L-arginine with the supplements that you are currently on.

You should know that the main cause for erectile dysfunction is performance anxiety, which is a psychogenic cause. I would recommend you speak to a doctor and get elaborate tests conducted, if no abnormalities are found, then you will need to consult with a psychologist who should be able to help you with your dysfunction.

As for the alcohol consumption; alcohol consumption reduces the effectiveness of all medications and supplements and in some cases even results in undesired interactions. In your case sir, the alcohol can result in a lowered level of effectiveness of the supplements you are on, and more importantly, it can even contribute to erectile dysfunction itself.

Drinking heavily once or twice a week can result in erectile dysfunction, among other effects, I would request you to reconsider this arrangement as it can result in an improvement in your health on many fronts.

I hope you find my response helpful sir. Please do not hesitate to write to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply and detailed information. Just to clarify, it is safe for me to mix the L-arginine with my alcohol consumption? And can you let me know the best dosage for ED purpose, should take at morning or night? And what other benefits come from the amino-acid?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Limited benefits, not always helpful, but worth a shot

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

It is okay to do so, but the effect of L-arginine can reduce or it may even not have the desired effect if you mix alcohol with it.

The dosage for erectile dysfunction is 5 gems once daily for 6 weeks, can be taken anytime during the day, but fix a certain time and follow it.

There is only limited research on the benefits of L-arginine on ED, but there have been cases that have reported benefits and improvement whilst on the arginine, it is not harmful and can be worth a shot in my opinion.

I hope this helps sir. Please feel free to write back to me anytime, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
