Question : Hi my daughter 7 months...has cough...giving piriton expectorant.....from last 5 days...results not good...can I give atarax.....pls suggest
Brief Answer:
yes you can
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually cold and cough is viral in nature. This can last for even a week.
But if cough persists despite medicines and no improvement in the last 5 days, you need to rule out
A. Throat infection which may need antibiotics like amoxicillin.
B. Chest or ear infections.
C. Wheezing if present may need bronchodilators like salbutamol.
You can give atarax which is antihistamine for running nose but it won't help the cough.
Wishing your child good health. Regards Dr Arun
