Can Ativan, Celexa, Atenolol And Metoprolol Be Taken Together?

Question : my 87 year old mother suffers with a major anxiety disorder, she is prescribed Ativan .25mg 4 times a day and Celexa 20mg, she also drinks about a litre or more of wine, against Dr.'s order, stating that it calms her.I told her that this is unsafe. what are potential effects of mixing these medications with red wine. Ahe has HBP, is on atenolol and metrpolol

There is a risk of interaction between the lorazepam and alcohol and also between the celexa and alcohol.

Both lorazepam and alcohol can cause sedation and dizziness so there is an increased risk of excessive drowsiness and dizziness with the combination.

Alcohol and celexa act to increase the potential toxicity of each other which means there is the potential to increase all of the possible side effects of each chemical.

It would be best, as you suggest, that she reduces the amount of alcohol significantly.

If she would not listen to you or her doctor, may need to find someone else that she might listen to or reduce her supply somehow, if possible
