Brief Answer:
Monitor for consciousness!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.

Xanax and Benadryl can cause a depressed state of consciousness/increased sleepiness. Clarithromycin would not contribute to this. As long as you are awake and not feeling too sleepy, there is nothing else to be scared of. Also, ask the prescribing doctor how he would have intended to get this drug taken.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Always available to respond to any further queries.

I am feeling very sleepy- that is what concerns me. I was told that the clarithromycin can heighten the effects of xanax. I just needed to make sure that i do not need to go to the emergency room

Brief Answer:
You need close monitoring!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.

Clarithromycin slows down the elimination of other drugs. This means that the effect of the drug would last longer than intended. However, clarithromycin alone has no effects on sleep. Xanax and Benadryl do.

If you think you are so sleepy that you cannot breath well, then you make need to use the emergency room. Otherwise, these would come to pass. If you would be on these medications for long, the most common approach would be to lower the doses of Benadryl and xanax while on clarithromycin to compensate for the decreased clearance. Otherwise, there is no other possible direct interaction that is of major concern.

I wish you well and if any further worries or clarifications needed, please am here for you.

Brief Answer:
Are you alone at home?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the follow up.

are you a lone at home? If you are with some other person, feel free to go to sleep but let the other persons check on you regularly just in case. If you are alone, I would say stay up for another 2hours to make sure all is very settled before you go to bed.

Thank you so much. I am not alone, but my husband has to wake early so i want to let him sleep. What symptoms should i look for to let me know if i need to go to the er? Once the 2 hours has passed will i be safe at that point?

Brief Answer:
After 2hours, it would be more reassuring!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Main symptoms to look at at difficulties breathing and become deeply unconscious. Otherwise, there is nothing much more that these medications can cause to you.

Staying awake a little longer would greatly cover the critical interval and would make us more confident that nothing might happen.

I wish you well.

I am so sorry if i am being a pest- i am not trying to be. I am less groggy and super sleepy like i was when i first contacted you. Does it matter that i took my asthma inhaler about 10 mins before my medications?
I will stay awake for the 2 hours to make sure. The only breathinh trouble i have had at all this evening is asthma issues.

Brief Answer:
You are not a pest. You are the reason why I am here!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Please, you are the reason why I am here. You are in no way a pest. I hope I didn't make you feel that way.

You are doing okay right now. The breathing difficulties to watch for are those that come with a depressed star of consciousness and not related to asthma.

Stay up and remember am here for you.
