Question : I was in contact with child with strep throat, since I have been coughing sore throat but no fever to speak of I have cephalexin will this help
Brief Answer:
may or may not help....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Cephalexin is effective against strep throat infection. However your current symptoms of cough and sorethroat may or may not be due to strep infection. I understand you have been exposed to Strep but the absence of fever is not classical of bacterial infection. I would suggest tylenol and zyrtec tablets along with XXXXXXX warm saline gargles instead of cephalexin.
If you don't get better, you should see a doctor for examination. A throat swab should be performed before starting cephalexin.
Hope this helps you.
