Question : I had laparoscopic appendectomy 3 weeks ago , surgery and followup were great . 14 days after surgery I started having uncontrollable diarrhea . 5 days later went to urgent care and was put on probiotics thinking that surgery antibiotics had unbalanced my system . I was also given a RX for Ciproflaxacin ,but told not to take it unless last resort . This is now 11 days of diarrhea , should I take Cipro ?
Brief Answer:
Ciprofloxacin for infectious diarrhea
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome
I appreciate your concern
Ciprofloxacin is reserved for infectious diarrhea. If there is blood in stool, high grade fever and a high white cell count then ciprofloxacin can be initiated. If that is not the cas then fluid replacement and probiotics would suffice.
