Can Clindamycin Cause Indigestion?
Question: I has put on Clindamycin HCL 500 mg on Friday due to an abscess on my gum. I took my 8 a.m. dose this morning and forgot to wait 10 minutes before laying down. My stomach started feeling funny and I feel like I have indigestion now. Is this what happens if you lay down without waiting the 10 minutes? Is there anything that I can do or take to take away this affect?

Dear Ms, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but clindamycin is likely to cause stomach upset even if you wait every time you take it before lying down .. it is likely to cause gastric irritation so I would recommend that you take omeprazol once daily to relieve your stomach irritation together with dimethicone ( dysflatyl ) chewable tablets three times daily for the indigestion .. it is important that you complete the course of prescribed antibiotics even if the gastric upset continues .. Discontinuing an antibiotic before completing the perscribed course can lead to rebound of infection and developement of resistant strains of bacteria .
