Question : A62yr old friend had a hip replacement 6 days ago . he is on heparin (sub cu) and I found that he was taking large doses of ibuprofen to control pain as he had a psychotic -like reaction to the Dilaudid he was prescribed. I advised him to stop any nsaids . He is also concerned with bowel obstruction and I recommended daily ducosate sodium(Colace) . His dr. was not available Is this advice okay until he can talk to his Dr. tomorrow?
Brief Answer:
it is safe to take
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Yes, it is safe to take Colace and it wont have bad side effects considering recent surgery and anticoagulation therapy. Ibuprofenum should be limited do 400mg daily or he should switch to mild opiate. Wish you good health. Regards
