Brief Answer:
Depakote does not directly affect SED results

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. SED or sedimentation rate (also called ESR) is a non specific entity which shows the amount by which a standing column of blood sediments when kept undisturbed over a duration of 1 - 2 hours.

2. The normal range is 0-22 mm/hr for men and 0-29 mm/hr for women. Any inflammation in the body is reflected in the SED. Most people with inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis might have high SED.

3. Depakote as such will not directly affect the SED. If you are having SED of 24 and experiencing symptoms which might be appearing like RA then a complete detailed evaluation might be required to know if you have the condition. SED in itself is a non specific test and is more useful in following the course of a known condition on follow up.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
