Can Duromine Be Taken Along With Fluvoxamine?

Question : Hi I was just wondering, is it safe to take Duromine 30mg (phentermine) with SSRI fluvoxamine 200mg at night (Luvox) ?

There is possible serious drug interaction between duromine and fluvoxamine. Possibility of serotonin syndrome. According to my opinion avoid taking these drugs together as far as possible.

Ok so my other medications I mentioned are fine with to take with Duromine??

P.S. If I was to taper off the fluvoxamine would it then be all safe??

I'm planning on starting Duromine 30mg from tomorrow morning. If I start to taper of Luvox tomorrow as well I should be fine if I get the dose down to 100mg right? Then offcourse keep tapering.
XXXXXXX I currently weigh 125 kilos. How long should it take to drop 30 kilos taking Duromine along with daily exercise of at least 45mins walking and good diet. What time frame do you think?

Hi,

Thanks for follow up. I recommend slow tapering of fluvoxamine every 25 mg every 5 days or maximum 50 mg every week. I do not know for which purpose fluvoxamine has been given. Better to consult your treating doctor before reducing fluvoxamine.

I recommend starting duromine when you are on 50 mg fluvoxamine.

I was prescribed fluvoxamine for anxiety 5 years ago. These days I feel my anxiety is under control and able to wean of Luvox.

1 more Q. Does Duromine cause any stress on the heart? Does it beat faster, will I feel uncomfortable? I quess my my blood pressure meds will keep any of those adverse effects under control? What's your opinion Chintan?

Yes if you are stable in anxiety you can taper off fluvoxamine gradually.

Yes duromine has some effects on heart. Cardiovascular adverse effects may be associated with phentermine. Palpitations, tachycardia, elevation of blood pressure, ischemic event have been reported. One should go for cardiac check-up before it is started. You are already taking medicines for hypertension. You can discuss more with your prescribing doctor about effects of heart specifically in your case according to your cardiac system functioning report.
