Can Flexeril Be Used As An Analgesic?

Posted on Thu, 12 Mar 2015
Question: Can flexeril be used as an analgesic prior to a minor laser procedure such as Ultherapy? ultherapy isn't actually a laser procedure. It actually uses heat to stimulate collagen production to tighten the skin over time. If you are not familiar with this procedure can I get my money refunded?

Brief Answer:
flexeril has muscle relaxant effect; you can use acetaminophen

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. This procedure usually gives a feeling of sting. Most patients don't require any medication for pain. After the treatment, the discomfort is gone immediately BUT you can ask your treating doctor to give you either injections or sedation. they will markedly reduce the pain intensity level. You can also request for local anesthetic(lignocane) to finish the procedure. If you are hesitant to have injections, a combination of a sedative and oral narcotic may work very well as an alternative.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

I have had Ultherapy in the past, and although I took Vicodin prior to the procedure, I did experience discomfort. I want to have a full strength/max heat treatment. There is not a physician on site, so having analgesia administered intraprocedure is not an option. My question is will Flexeril provide any analgesic effect during my treatment? I was planning to take acetaminophen 650mg prior. Will Flexeril provide any additional relief? Should I seek a narcotic analgesic?

Brief Answer:
opioid analgesics effective alternative option

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the follow-up query.

Flexeril has more muscle relaxant effect as compared to analgesic effect. In your case i would suggest you to go for opioid analgesics(like codeine, morphine or their derivatives). Opioid analgesics do not cause any specific organ toxicity, unlike many other drugs. Sedation & addiction are two important adverse effects by their use so care must be taken NOT to misuse them. They are prescription medicines so you can discuss their use with your treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
