Can Flumox Be Taken For Treatment Of Bladder Infection?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: Hallo I have bladder infection with lots of nitrit in the urine so I suppose it's caused by e coli. Does it make sense to treat it with Flumox (amoxicillin and flucloxacillin) or are the bacteria likely to be resistant to those antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
Need to to take antibiotic as per culture report.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have UTI .

It is always advisable to do urine culture and take antibiotics as per culture and sensitivity report.to get quick results than taking any antibiotics .

Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

In the man while you can start taking Flumox after giving urine sample for culture.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Hello, thank you for your answer. However, I'm currently (and will be for a few weeks) in a place without access to a doctor or a lab and the only available antibiotic is Flumox. So I was hoping for some numbers to evaluate the risk and possible benefits of taking it: for example if 80 % of the bacteria usually causing UTI were resistant to both amoxicillin and flucloxacillin I'd obviously be better off not taking Flumox as it would only weaken my immune system, had low chances of actually helping plus I would have wasted precious antibiotics on a (relatively) harmless disease. However if Flumox is very likely to help this rather annoying and painful thing would be over and I'm not risking a serious pyelonephritis. Are there any numbers or experiences with Flumox for UTI? Thank you very much for your help.

Brief Answer:
Difficult to say whether it will be helpful or not

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
Flomax is routinely prescribed in UTI .But the bacteria always change their sensitivity pattern and may not be same in every individual and in every episode of infection.

In a given situation that you have been you can take chance and take Flumox.with the hope to get your problem resolved.

Antibiotics taken over a short duration will not pose much side effects and danger as you are worried about.

Thanks and Regards.
