Question: I have been taking a low grade blood pressure medicine for about a month now. I am taking Furosemide 20mg, metoprolol succ er 50mg, and potassium chloride er 8 meq. About a week after I started taking it I got a severe case of hemmroids. And they won't clear up at all. Can this medicine cause this? I have never had hemmroids in my life and now they are bleeding and it is extremely painful.

Brief Answer:
The medication for High blood pressure is not causing the bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking Healthcaremagic.

I am Dr.Endri Katro and I will answer at your questions.

The medication that you started for your blood presure is not causing the swelling of the hemorrhoids or the bleeding. We need months or even years for hemorrhoids to develop and the main reasons are:
-straining during bowel movement
-constipation or chronic diarrhea
-low diet fiber
-alcohol,especially red wine
-obesity
-fast food,spicy,fries ect

Probably you have had the hemorrhoids for some time now,but those were asymptomatic (no pain,no bleeding).

I see that you have use cream, and pads and also hot bath. At this time, you need to do the oposite.
-You need to apply cold compresses or ice for the swelling
-tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain
-no alcohol
-don't use dry toilet paper
-use fibers in your diet

If i was your caring doctor i would do a physical digital exam to see if you have internal hemorrhoids or not. Also i would do a visual inspection for thrombosis.

Usually the symptoms go away in less than a week, but since yours don't want to go away than i sudgest than whenever you can consult your physitian and if needed even a proctologist because in the cas of a thrombosis symptoms might get even worse. Or even the bleeding.

Meanwhile follow the advice that I gave you.

If you have any other question, don't hesitate to consult me.

whish you good health.
