Brief Answer:
yes can be used

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Shingles or post herpetic neuralgia can be very painful.

Gabapentin belongs to the anti convulsant category of medication (anti seizure medication) but it is also used in different types of nerve related pain including shingles.

It is one of the medications that can be used to help relieve the pain in this condition.
There are different formulations of gabapentin: (1) neurontin ( one of these formulations or types of gabapentin) starts as 300mg once daily the first day then increases to 300mg twice daily on day two , 300mg 3 times a day on day 3

This dose can go up to 600mg every 8 hours if needed.

(2) the other type of gabapentin- gralise- is taken once daily. This is an extended release or slow release tablet. It goes from 300mg once daily to a gradual increase up to 1800mg if needed.

Summary: you can use gabapentin- either the once daily gralise formulation or as neurontin which needs repeated doses ,

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
