You first need to get investigated properly; get the following investigations first - Fasting and post prandial blood glucose levels, Lipid profile, thyroid profile, Hba1c along with microalbuminuria done. You can get back to me or your physician with the reports. Specific treatment can be planned based on the test result.
You are advised to take metformin. That is low dose, even prescribed for obesity, and some insulin resistance states. That will prevent you getting diabetes.
Please remember even hypothyroidism can cause insulin resistance. So first you need to correct that . Later we will assess. Life style management is the key. You use iodized salt, more of green leafy veggie and fruits. Nuts and legumes. Protein and fiber rich food than oily food. Do exercises walk at least for an hour a day . Practice yoga and meditation.
