Can HIV Be Contracted From Unprotected Intercourse Despite Negative HIV Test Result?

Question: Hi,
I had a once night encounter w a male of unknown HIV status. We did not use a condom for 5 minutes and he did not ejaculate. I tested negative on a rapid test at 38 days post exposure. What are the chances I will now test positive?

Brief Answer:
Almost zero!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
38days after is a long time and most rapid HIV tests are able to provide an accurate result. It will be very unlikely to get any change from a negative to a positive result at this time.
However, it's always advisable to use protection especially when you are not sure of the HIV status of the other partner to be negative.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.
