Question : Hi. I've been on Truvada 6 days before I had a protected anal sex experience. I was the top. I am unsure if the condom broke during sex though. I'm wondering about my risk for HIV with a potential condom breakage and being a top (and being on PrEP for 6 days)... I have a small rash on the right side of my stomach and am wondering if that's HIV related. No other symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Chances low; check other symptoms; HIV DUO test on 28th day

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I have a few questions for you sir, these provide me with more information on the events for my better understanding, I would appreciate it if you would take some time out to write back to me, trusting that this information shall remain between the 2 of us only.

+ I would like to first ask who prescribed the truvada for you? Whether it was a doctor who did so after a physical examination; or did you self-prescribe?

+Was your partner a male or female?

+Do you know your partner or was he/she a sexual worker? If you do know your partner, could you ask the person about their HIV-status?

The chances of contracting HIV from breakage of condom through anal intercourse is low, but not absent. I would also like to add that just a rash (like the one you have from the images), does not suffice to conclude or suspect HIV. Let me also go ahead and list all the symptoms you should be looking out for:

+Flu-like symptoms
+Fever
+Sore throat
+Exhaustion
+Headache
+Rash
+Swollen lymph nodes (more commonly in the neck)

Please do look out for the above symptoms; I would also like to recommend going for the HIV DUO test on the 28th day (from the exposure), which can provide a 99.8% accurate result if conducted on or after the 28th day from exposure. Please do go about this investigation, as it can put our worries to rest.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please also feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
