Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: I am a microbiologist by profession. I have a question because i am in a little doubt. I want to know whether HIV TRIDOT Kits able to spread any kind of infection as the kit contains some sort of immobilized antigens with buffer solution and a protein conjugate. Are these things potentially infectious?Actually i touched kit with hand with a cut on my finger. The buffer solution touched the cut on my finger. Are these things potentially infectious? I know buffer solution contain bovine serum albumin and protein conjugate contains sodium azide plus a preservative..Is there any chance of infection from kit with IMMOBILIZED ANTIGENS or buffer or protein conjugate?
I did not come in contact with patients serum and results were negative..

Brief Answer:
No risk of infection.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your query and understand the concern you are worried about.

The risk of transmission of HIV in your case is nil because you did not come in contact with patient serum, it is just the contact of buffer solution and protein conjugate and the result of the test is also negative so don't get tensed or feared as you are absolutely safe and free from HIV.

Thank You

Thanks doc
Please also tell me regarding the risk of HPV and throat cancer..In recent times it is emphasised that Oral sex leads to HPV infection and it may lead to oral or throat cancer? Is oral sex harmful if a person is in a single monogamous relationship only with wife?I would appreciate if you can throw some light on this issue..

Brief Answer:
No it is not harmful as such.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

If someone is in monogemous relationship with wife then doing oral sex does not cause any harm. I don't think there is any risk of HPV or oral cancer with such activity if both partners are clean so no need to worry about that. Be relaxed and move on.

You have to take some precautions while have oral sex like maintain sexual hygeine, avoid it if any oral infection is present, avoid multiple partners etc. If still you have any query feel free to ask me.

PEP should be started within 72 hours of possible exposure and it should be taken upto 28 days. The life expectancy with new drugs and HAART is more definitely and patient can lead normal life but exact figure is not available but it is for sure that quality of life is improved very much with these drugs.
