Can HIV Be Contracted Through Protected Intercourse?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Sep 2016
Question: Hello, on July 19th, I had protected sex with a woman and unprotected oral sex with her as well. then on July 28th, I had protected sex with a woman and unprotected oral sex with her as well. Then on July 30th, I had unprotected oral sex with a different woman.

Then on August 3rd, I got a low fever (99), the following day I got chills, night sweats, and a bad fever (102) that broke that same night. On August 5th, i got a rash that covered my chest, arms and legs (Pictures attached). The rash went away in about 24 hours.

On August 9th I got a full STD screen that included an HIV RNA test and an HIV 4th generation test. Both came back negative.

Then a week later on August 16th, I got another full STD screen again with an HIV RNA test and an HIV 4th generation test. Both came back negative.

I tested the women that I had protected sex with using oraquick and they cam back negative, however, the woman that I had unprotected oral sex with I did not test.

I know the testing window for HIV RNA tests is 9-14 days from exposure, but could this still be HIV?

What are the chances that this could be an HIV infection?

How conclusive is the HIV RNA test? especially since I took it twice?

Brief Answer:
HIV Negative.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. Welcome to health care magic.

I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query. I have gone through the photos and details.

The chances of transmission of HIV by protected intercourse with a HIV positive person is nil. Chances of transmission by oral sex is almost nil unless there are bleeding wounds in both. It is unlikely. So the risk is almost nil.
HIV RNA PCR is sensitive(99%) after 10-14 days exposure. It is negative after 16 days. You are HIV negative.
The chances of tests coming positive later is nil.
But it may be better to go for HIV 1&2 antibodies tests after 3 months for final conclusive results and to relieve anxiety.

The symptoms are non specific. It may be due to allergy or fever rash.

You can get back for any clarification.
