Can HIV Be Transmitted Through Masturbation?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Jun 2015
Question: Dear doctor,

I wrote to you about a handjob encounter I had at a massage parlour.

I know there is no risk of stds's but just wanted some more clarification as I cannot get an appointment with my doctor till next week.

Ever since the encounter my bladder has felt weak and I have urinated more than normal. Also I feel burning in my penis and my feet. This morning I woke up and found semen at the top of my penis, although I did wake up with a stiff penis. I then masturbated to see if I could get rid of whatever the feeling is I have been having. Upon masturbation the semen came out white and with bits of yellow. I have had no other sexual encounter apart from the hand job for a year

I have burning in my feet ad penis and hear this could be a sign of hiv?

Please can you address my points one by one

thank you again

Brief Answer:
This is not a sign of HIV!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms and all the disturbing thoughts this has caused you. I have reviewed your information fully and I have to be very clear with you that there is no chance of getting an STD from a hand job. The second point is that these symptoms are in no way suggestive of a possible HIV infection. I understand how worried you are following your encounter and that is the most likely reason why you are experiencing and reporting more symptoms.

What exactly do you mean by you urinate more than normal? If this means yoou are urinating more frequently in small volumes than before, this could raise the suspicion of a urinary tract infection. However, a urinary tract infection is not an STD and is not transmitted through hand jobs.

Pain in the legs and penis are really not connected. The lack of connection between your symptoms make it more likely that you are so worried to the extend that you may be unable to function normally. Please, be calm and relax about this. We would be able to understand more and help you.

Because of your worried nature, I will recommend that you get a urine test and screening for STDs. I am sure with test results which would show that there is nothing to be concerned about, you would get more relaxed and settled. This would also respond to the yellowish bits you reported in your sperm though unlikely to represent a disease condition.

I hope this addresses your worries fully. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.

Like I mentioned before, the chances of any possible HIV/Herpes/STD infections are very slim. I know you are too worried and this is the possible reasons why you have symptoms that cannot be explained by a single disease process. Anxiety seems to be taking an upper hand on us.

This is unlikely to be a kidney infection. Keep me updated when the results of the next test come in. you can also upload your results for me to interpret and provide a second opinion.

I wish you well.
