Can HPV Be Contracted Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Jun 2015
Question: I have asked this of another doctor, but I'm paranoid and very depressed and would like reassurance that another doctor agrees with the information.

I have been informed that the likelihood of catching oral Hpv from a one-time oral exposure of giving another man felacio is low. It was one exposure, for maybe several minutes only, no ejaculation in mouth.

My wife and I were virgins so unlikely she'd have it. We did have other oral partners before marriage.

I'm just very paranoid.

I have been told by a doctor that HPV from a singe oral exposure is low, around 1%.

I have also been told due to this very low possibility, I should not worry and move past this.

Do you agree that the likelihood of HPV from an exposure such as this is low, very rare, around or less than 1% and I should not worry about this?

Thanks. This will be my last inquiry into this matter: I just wanted the opinion of more than one doctor.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
The Chances are almost negligible. Don't worry and relax.

Detailed Answer:
Dear young fellow,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the possibility of HPV after one time exposure.

After analyzing your query with best diligence let me reassure you first that I agree with the point that the chances of getting HPV is as low as 1 percent or even lower than that in your kind of exposure.

In my clinical experience it is almost negligible. HPV is quite very simple condition and in few minutes of single exposure the chances are almost nil.

An additional point to tell you is that if at all it occurs in rest of 1 percent of cases then it occurs within 3 months of exposure.

Do let me know the time period of exposure so that I can guide you further.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. This was not yet three months ago. Maybe 5 weeks ago.

I'll keep an eye out for several months. But in your expert opinion, HPV is not very likely. And I should relax and not worry?

Also, I don't even know if there was an HPV infection. But even if there was, one oral contact is not likely to catch it?

Thanks. I've not been able to sleep or eat much as I've been consumed with anxiety.

Brief Answer:
I reassure you fully that the chances are nil.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Young fellow,

Welcome back and thanks a lot for your swift follow up.

You can observe yourself for next couple of weeks. Most commonly if one gets HPV then 4-8 weeks is the usual commonest time and longest we follow for 3 months.

In my expert opinion and clinical experience I reassure you fully that the chances are nil. I quite often counsel your kind of cases where the person is really anxious after such kind of episodes. On long term follow up I find the person to be totally normal.

Academically also, it is possible only in XXXXXXX cases of HPV where we see certain lesions on the area of contact or cuts over mucosal surface of both the partner's skin.

You have not given any history related to any lesion in your fellatio partner as well as there is no history of any cuts in your case. So this furtehr supports the nil possibility of HPV.

I reassure you again that the chances are nil so you should relax and don't worry for any possibility of HPV in your case.

I hope this helps.
