Question: My 12 year old daughter had recent labs done after increasing depression and anxiety. Developed obvious muscle tic. Anger and irritability that is worsening. Basic personality changes in the short amount of time. Decreased appetite. Her labs showed a high calcium level of 11. High total protein of 8.2 and a lower Vitamin D of 31( 30 is the cut off on reference range and we had just gotten home a few days prior to labs from Florida sun)Her doctor is telling me everything is normal, but everything I read says this is what could be leading to all these symptoms she’s having and that are getting worse.

Brief Answer:
Calcium needs to be addressed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I understand that your daughter has mild elevation in calcium and protein. From the history and reports it could be possible that high calcium can cause or worsen some of the symptoms your daughter is experiencing .
I am surprised your doctor has ignored this .
I would suggest you
1. Get a local physician or pediatrician to examine and assess her
2. Encourage her to drink plenty of water and liquids
3. Avoid calcium containing antacids available over the counter.
Protein and vitamin d seems not much related , so need not worry about them .

The vitamin d level being lower doesn’t correlate with the high calcium at all? What would be causing her calcium to be high? If they get it down what’s to say it just doesn’t go back up?

Brief Answer:
Yes may not relate

Detailed Answer:
It is not necessary that vitamin d has to be high in mildly elevated calcium levels below 12.
Regarding your second query it is possible to bring down calcium with dietary restriction and avoiding antacids like mentioned before
