Can I Ejaculate While I Have A Foley Catheter Inside Me?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Apr 2014
Question: I had a permanent Foley catheter installed 2 days ago ( a small one: gauge 12 ) and I'm waiting for an appointment with a urologist. A few years ago, I had a bladder neck incision (TUIP) and since then, I have had retrograde ejaculation ( sperm goes in my bladder ). My question is: Can I ejaculate while I have this catheter inside me ? I have 2 concerns: 1- Is it ok with my body ( the sperm would go in the bladder as usual ) or is it XXXXXXX somehow ? 2- If it's ok and the sperm ends up in the bladder, could the sperm block or clogged the catheter ? Thanks, XXXX

Brief Answer: Retrograde ejaculation will not affect your body. Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have Obstructive Urinary symptoms due to in-compliant bladder due to stricture urethra that you have developed due to instrumentation(TUIP and Urothroplasty) I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem. 1) Is the catheter put through urethra or through supra pubic route? As regards retrograde ejaculation since your bladder neck is incised (TUIP) you will ejaculate in to bladder as your bladder neck is wide open which normally gets closed during ejaculation and felicitates entering the semen in urethra.Having catheter through supra -pubic route has no concern with ejaculation .You will ejaculate even with having catheter in situ(SPC) Sperms entering into bladder will not have any negative effect on any system of the body. They pass out with urine . Sperms will never block the catheter. Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you Thanks and Regards. Hello Dr. XXXXXXX Thank you for your prompt answer. To answer your question: The foley catheter is inserted through the urethra via my penis. To be clear I will re-phrase my questions: 1- Normally, without the catheter, I have retrograde ejaculation (because of TUIP). Now, with the catheter passing through the prostatic urethra and bladder neck, will it block the passage of sperm into the bladder when I ejaculate, or the sperm will pass anyway and find it's way around the rubber tube and go easily in the bladder ? 2- After ejaculation, with the sperm now in the bladder, your saying that the sperm will not clogged or blocked the catheter when it will pass through the catheter and go easily into my leg bag (even with a small 12 gauge) ? Thanks again, XXXX

Brief Answer: It will pass in bladder by the side of Catheter. Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for follow up and feedback. the semen will be ejaculated retrograde in to bladder by the side of the catheter. It will get mixed with urine and diluted and will pass through catheter freely and will not block the catheter. Thanks and Regards. Dr.Patil.
