Question : Hi,
My 9 year old son, 31kgs, is complaining of mid to upper thigh pain. It started 3 days ago, after getting up and sitting down a lot in school and running as part of school sports. I have given him 300mg 1-1-1 paracetamol, applied vicks/iodex to his thigh, put ice packs but it has not helped resolve the pain.
He had a bout of gastritis in 2018 Feb 1st week that he was on PPI till May 1st week. He had gerd and retching till last week of April and we still have not resumed normal level of spice in his food. We did not do an endoscopy, so we do not have proof of ulceration. We are unsure if his stomach has healed completely, since there were no lab tests to see status now, and we are still very careful about what and how much he eats. He has not taken any antacid/PPI since May 10th.
The reason I mentioned above is, given his recent gastritis bout can we give him children's dose - 100 - 150mg of ibuprofen, will brufen+ppi be safe for him? Should or can we safely use diclofenac cream? Or should we just stick to paracetamol and ice packs? Due to pain, he is missing school, he complains on walking around and sometimes while sitting. He has slept through the nights so far.

Brief Answer:
Can be given in full stomach.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Let me inform that ibuprofen or diclofenac are gastric irritants but giving them in full stomach minimizes the harm. You can feel free to give them but you need to ensure that the child takes them only after feeds.
It is possible that the pain is due to electrolyte imbalance. Giving juicy fruits like citrus fruits, and bananas should help. Growing pain is another possibility to consider.
Feel free to write back.
