Brief Answer:
Imitrex is not approved in children less than 16 years of age

Detailed Answer:
Good evening.

Imitrex is not to be used in children under the age 16 according to FDA regulations therefore, I would not advise you to take it upon yourself to administer such an agent. Not only that, you cannot make the diagnosis of MIGRAINE headache which is what it is indicated for......he may have another type of headache.

Your best recommendation right now is to get to know his history a bit more. Does he get headaches and are they like this one? If so, what does he do to treat them? Do you have access to speak to his parents? They may know something about best to treat him.

You can also try 2-4 Tylenol ES...but don't combine that with other medications. If you are going to use paracetamol then, stick to it and use it according to labeling instructions. Also, for the short run you can try either a frozen package of vegetables or ice pack....if that doesn't help you can switch it for a warm compress across both the forehead AS WELL AS the rear of the head and neck. That could help.

If this headache is the first one he's ever had and if he develops troubling symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or anything that causes him to have a red or swollen looking eye then, I suggest you head immediately to the ER.

If I've satisfactorily addressed your question then, could you do me the kindest of favors by CLOSING THIS QUERY and be sure to include some fine words of feedback and a 5 STAR rating to our transaction if you feel the response has helped you? Again, many thanks for posing your question.
